The fact that the Phoenix Suns would be looking to move the expiring contract of Marcin Gortat this season was a foregone conclusion. The fact that they would do it before the regular season tips off, was not. The Suns have managed to move Gortat to the Washington Wizards in a multi-player deal, which will send Emeka Okafor to Phoenix.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal is as follows:

Phoenix Suns receive: 2014 protected first-round pick, Emeka Okafor

Washington Wizards receive: Marcin Gortat, Shannon Brown, Kendal Marshall and Malcolm Lee

It’s hard not to like this trade. Okafor is currently out indefinitely with a neck issue, which would certainly hurt the postseason aspirations of the Wizards. So they give up their injured big man and a protected first-rounder mainly for a solid and healthy center. In return, the Suns help their own case when it comes to tanking the season and also get a pick in return. It looks like a win-win.
