It’s been about a year and a half since Magic Johnson and his partners from the financial company Guggenheim Partners purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are now two wins away from entering the 2013 World Series.
The Dodgers are currently experiencing one of the biggest turnarounds in Major League baseball history. Last year they were seen as one of the worst teams in the league, and this year they have a legitimate shot at winning a title. Magic’s star power has turned this franchise around. This is ‘showtime’ all over again. When Johnson bought the Dodgers, he guaranteed the fans in Los Angeles that the Dodgers would contend for the World Series immediately. He’s been running the Dodgers like Dr. Jerry Buss ran the Lakers during their ‘showtime’ era.
Magic knows that there are natural advantages when playing in a big market city like Los Angeles, and those type of opportunities should be exploited every moment. If the league allows you to outspend your competition, then what’s stopping you from doing it? After all, that’s how the Lakers built their dynasty. That’s exactly how they became one of the most historic sports franchises.
Well thanks to Earvin “Magic” Johnson, it looks like the Dodgers are now doing things the Laker way.
