1979 – Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird and Los Angeles Lakers guard/forward Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) both made their NBA debuts on the same day, but in different venues. At Boston Garden, the Celtics defeated the Houston Rockets, 114-106. Bird started and scored 14 points. Also in this game, his teammate Chris Ford made the first 3-pointer in NBA history with 3:48 left in the first quarter. Across the country, Magic Johnson scored 26 points in the Lakers’ 103-102 victory over the San Diego Clippers.
