Derrick Rose decided to sit the whole of 2012-13 season out, despite reports saying that he was medically cleared. Rose was never officially ruled out for the season until the Chicago Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs, but he ended the season the way he had started it — in a suit. That is not something that the former MVP regrets.
Rose: "The possibility of injuring myself again, that's something I didn't want to put myself through." Says he doesn't regret anything.

Clearly, the thought of there being even a slight chance of him being forced to go through the pain and suffering he had already endured frigthened Rose, and so he chose to play it safe.
Rose admitted that he has watched the video of his injury 20 to 30 times, but is trying to forget about it.
Whether or not Rose will be as good as he was prior to his injury remains to be seen, but it’s also interesting to see how Tom Thibodeau will manage his superstar’s minutes. Rose leaves his playing time completely in the hands of Thibs, who is known for not being shy when it comes to playing his most important players for too many minutes.
