Imagining promotional night with Andrew Bynum

For the 2012-13 season, the Cleveland Cavaliers were 22nd in overall attendance with an average of 16,192 fans per home game. Quicken Loans Arena has a max capacity of 20,562. During LeBron’s last year with the team in 2010, they sold out every home game. I expect attendance to be up this year due to a better product on the hardwood, but 41 sellouts may be unlikely. One way to increase attendance is to have some “can’t miss” promotion nights celebrating our newest free agent, Andrew Bynum. Here are a few that I think are essential Bynum giveaways for the upcoming season:

Bynum Bowling Ball Night -

No promotional schedule is complete without this giveaway. Sponsored by Brunswick Bowling, all fans in attendance would receive an eight-ounce, authentic bowling ball, suitable for actual use. If he was not 7’0” tall and 300 pounds, chances are we would be watching Andrew tearing up the lanes (more like tearing up his knees) on ESPN during weekday afternoons. PBA scouts rave about his durability and coachability. He would, without question, make the PBA America’s newest past time. I have no doubt that Quicken Loans Arena would be packed with crazed Wine and Gold fans eager to get a Bynum Bowling Ball.

Bynum Knee Brace Night-

Much like the first promotion, I would assume many fans would make the special trip into downtown Cleveland just for the opportunity to get a free knee brace. Sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic, only the first 264 (one for each game he has missed in his career) fans would receive this limited edition knee brace. And these braces would not be the little woven cotton sleeves. They would be the full, bulky metal ones worn by Bynum himself. These limited editions braces would certainly draw in fans from not only in northeast Ohio, but the entire state.

Bynum Wig Night-

Yeah, sure Anderson Varejeo still has those luscious locks that made him a fan favorite five years ago, but few players have had the diverse hairstyles that Bynum has, with exception of Scott Pollard and Dennis Rodman. Last year while on the roster for the Philadelphia 76ers, the hairstyles stole the show. Bynum showed fans his Ben Wallace-like Aaro as well as his Allen Iverson-like cornrows. He even combined the two during one interview. The left side of his hair was a fluffy afro and the right side were cornrows. Sponsored by Les Amis Salon Spa (located in Tower City), all fans would receive three separate wigs. They would be given the afro, the cornrows and combination wig. These would certainly become a popular sight in the stands for the rest of the season.
