If you thought that the Los Angeles Lakers had a terrible 2012-13 campaign, it’s hard to put it in words how bad of a season the team is projected to have in 2013-14. Howard is gone and Kobe Bryant’s health remains a question mark. And now it seems that Mike D’Antoni is inclined to restrict the playing time of his other two star players in Steve Nash and Pau Gasol.
“I think Pau and Nash will be 100% before the season starts,” D’Antoni said. “We’ll try to go slow with them during preseason and make sure they’re OK. We’ll see how the season goes but maybe work with them to keep their minutes down to where it’s manageable and keep them OK.”
So, this makes it official, right? The Lakers are tanking? Obviously some kind of a restriction is necessary, as both Nash and Gasol struggled mightily to stay healthy last year, but this is just further indication that the Lakers franchise is looking at a major down year next season.
