The Orlando Magic are slowly and steadily rebuilding the team around some young players with a lot of potential. As such, several of the team’s veterans have been reported to be in buy-out talks and trade scenarios. One player that was often subjected to these rumors, especially early in the free agency period, was Arron Afflalo.

However, it seems that Afflalo is not going anywhere, at least for now. Magic Director of Pro Scouting Harold Ellis had the following to say:

“I know a lot of rumors are circling with Arron, we love Arron. We view Arron as almost a core player with us. It would have to be something crazy for us to part ways with Arron. We love him.” Everybody calls for him, but we stood tight. If I was another team, I would call for him also.”

The most curious part of that statement is that Afflalo is “almost a core player”. Clearly, if a lucrative enough offer was on the table, Orlando would obviously consider and he is not untouchable, but he seems safe for the moment.

One rumor that was floating around earlier was an Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler for Afflalo trade, which never went through and the Clippers ended up making a deal with the Phoenix Suns.
