Larry Sanders truly had a breakout year last season for the Milwaukee Bucks and has quickly become one of very few bright spots that are associated with the franchise at the moment. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the team is looking to lock up the center by offering him an extension.

The Milwaukee Bucks are in advanced discussions on a contract extension with forwardLarry Sanders, according to sources close to the process.

Oct. 31 is the deadline for extensions for members of Sanders’ 2010 draft class, but sources told ESPN.com this week that negotiations on a new deal for one of Milwaukee’s new cornerstones have already reached the final stages.

Although contract figures were not immediately known, sources say that Sanders is expected to receive an extension with an annual salary in excess of $10 million. He averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game in just 27.3 minutes per game last season.

At the age of 24, Sanders still has a lot of upside. He is a really athletic shot-blocker and already one of the best rim protectors in the league, but he is also quite limited offensively. While $10 million a year for a player of his quality might seem much, it’s pretty much where the market is for that type of a player (JaVale McGee, DeAndre Jordan).
