With pretty much every single big-time free agent already signed, Greg Oden has been the name that has floated around the rumor mill the most this last week. With a lot of teams looking to acquire the big man, Oden finally made his decision on Friday and will be taking his talents to South Beach.
Greg Oden’s NBA comeback will be launched on South Beach.
Oden told ESPN.com on Friday night that he has chosen the two-time defending championMiami Heat as his new team, capping a monthlong recruiting process which culminated with Oden spending this entire week making his final selection from a list of six suitors.
Referring to Miami, home of the two-time reigning champions, as the “best place” and “best fit” after years of knee troubles, Oden will report to the Heat on Monday and, according to sources close to the process, sign a two-year deal at the league minimum with a player option for Year 2.
There’s not really much to say here — it’s a great signing by the Heat. At the league minimum it offers pretty much no risk and if it doesn’t work out it’s not a big deal. Oden will not be rushed back and will be allowed to take his time, so there is always a chance that he could get strong enough to stay on the floor and be a shot-blocking machine in the playoffs.
