Chauncey Billups said that he wants to play for two more years, and will have the opportunity to do so by signing a two-year deal with the Detroit Pistons.

Nearly a decade after resurrecting the franchise and leading it to an NBA championship, Chauncey Billups has reached agreement on a two-year contract to return to the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal will be worth $5 million-plus for Billups, league sources said.

The New York Knicks was another team that was reportedly very interested in Billups’ services, with head coach Mike Woodson trying to convince the veteran to play for the team and sign a veteran’s minimum contract. Instead, the 36-year-old will return to where he had the best years of his career.

The Pistons are fresh of signing Josh Smith and other than the borderline All-Star have a nice young core to build around. It’s unclear whether Billups will want to start or not, as Brandon Knight seems determined to learn to play the point guard position.
