Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks struck out in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes and are now moving on to plan B. Apparently, plan B involves signing Jose Calderon and potentially pursuing Andrew Bynum.
Mavs' post-Dwight interest in Bynum is legit. They ARE pursuing him. Yet it's been made clear they'll make detailed/careful evaluation first

The Mavs want to work their way back to title contention, and could end up gambling on Bynum’s knees. The free agent was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last offseason, but was unable to play in a single game due to knee injuries. Whether it was a bowling accident or a setback in his rehab, Andrew just couldn’t get healthy.
Obviously Cuban will first make sure that Bynum can actually get healthy enough to play before investing any kind of money in him, and a lot will depend on how much Bynum asks for.
If he could stay healthy, Bynum and Dirk Nowitzki could make for a pretty mean frontcourt, but, again, that is a pretty big if.
