NBA Trade Rumors – According to Chris Broussard of ESPN, Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers will be meeting with free agent OJ Mayo for lunch. The Clippers have a spot to fill at the two-guard spot and have pursued shooting guards in free agency. However, Mayo might be out of the Clippers’ price range unless the team can swing a sign-and-trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
Eric Bledsoe has been highly coveted around the league, and the Mavericks is one of many teams that has expressed interest in the young guard. Broussard says that Rivers still wants to keep Bledsoe, and if the two teams were to make a deal for Mayo, the Clippers would probably offer either Jamal Crawford or Caron Butler to the Mavs.
Dallas will obviously push for Bledsoe, but the two other players are not out of the question either. If the Mavs miss out on Dwight Howard, the team could very well sign players to one-year contracts and wait for next year’s free agency. If that would be the case, Butler’s expiring contract wouldn’t be the worst option and would not jeopardize the team’s cap flexibility moving forward. Crawford has a multi-year contract but is still a very good player that most teams could use.
