The Miami Heat’s need for the a true center has been widely-talked about, and the team’s interest in come back player of the year hopeful Greg Oden has been almost as widely reported. Here is another name to add into the mix: Andrew Bynum.
According to ESPN’s J.A. Adande (via SportsCenter), the Heat, in addition to a number of other NBA teams such as the San Antonio Spurs, are interested in the big-man-turned-hair-icon.
The thinking here is similar to that of an Oden signing. If the Heat can ink Bynum for a low salary (preferably the veteran minimum), then the risk would be low enough to merit a roster spot. The reward, on the other hand, could be tremendous.
This is a Heat team that has been willing to take risks at center. Remember the Eddy Curry experiment? But hey, some of them work too. See Chris Andersen. CAW! Speaking of Birdman — Andersen remains the team’s free agency priority, according to the Miami Herald.
The Heat are expected to resign Andersen and will likely take care of that before seriously entering negotiations with other centers.
