On This Date in NBA Draft History: June 23, The Cavaliers Chose Kyrie Irving No. 1 Overall

2011 – The Cleveland Cavaliers chose Kyrie Irving of Duke University with the first overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft. He went on to be the 2012 Rookie of the Year as well as the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge MVP, a 2013 All-Star and 2013 Three-Point Shootout champion. Irving is currently the only All-Star that was in the 2011 draft class.
