On This Date in NBA Draft History: June 22, The Spurs Chose David Robinson No. 1 Overall

1987 – In the seven-round 1987 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs chose David Robinson (@DavidtheAdmiral) of the United States Naval Academy with the first overall pick. Robinson decided to continue his military service and then began his NBA career in 1989-90. He went on to be the 1990 Rookie of the Year as well as a 10-time All-Star and two-time champion. Other All-Stars that were drafted in 1987 were Horace Grant, Mark Jackson, Kevin Johnson, Reggie Lewis, Reggie Miller and Scottie Pippen.
