Clippers – Celtics blockbuster seems unlikely

By far the hottest rumor lately has been the one involving the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers. The two teams were in intense discussions about a deal that would send Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers to LA.

The talks have cooled down and no progress is being made. While Rivers, if available, remains the Clippers’ No. 1 coaching candidate, the team has been rumored to be considering Lionel Hollins and Brian Shaw.

Other than the fact that Rivers is seemingly out of the discussions, there are several other hurdles.

First of all, both teams are in a hurry to get a deal done, and if it does not get done by early next week, both will be walking away from the negotiations. Also, the two teams don’t seem to agree on the players that should be included in the deal. While the Clippers are happy to part ways with DeAndre Jordan and a first-round pick, the Celtics want an additional first-round pick and Eric Bledsoe. At this point, it’s hard seeing the Clippers parting ways with Bledsoe, as he is the team’s insurance in case Chris Paul ends up leaving in this summer’s free agency.

The deal is not officially dead just yet, but it’s hard seeing the two teams coming to an agreement at this point.
