Phil Jackson has been in the news quite a lot recently, as he is launching his new book “Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success”. In his book, Jackson compares two of the greatest players of all-time, both of whom he has had the pleasure of coaching, in Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. However, if he was to participate in a fantasy draft featuring all NBA players in the history of basketball, he would pick neither of the two.
“In my estimation, the guy that has to be there would be Bill Russell. He has won 11 championships as a player,” Jackson said in an interview with Time. “That’s really the idea of what excellence is, when you win championships.”
Obviously there is nothing wrong in picking a guy who has won 11 championships, 5 MVP awards and was a 5-time rebounding champion and 12-time All-Star. Jackson has always preached the importance of rings when judging a great player, so the fact that he would pick a guy who is a proven winner is really no surprise.
What do you think? Do you agree with Jackson’s pick or would you rather go for Michael Jordan, or perhaps someone else? Let us know in the comment section below.
