The Dallas Mavericks will be pushing hard to land Dwight Howard in this summer’s free agency, but the team is also looking for other players to fill out the roster. According to rumors, Jerryd Bayless and Jarrett Jack are two potential candidates for the point guard job.
Darren Collison didn’t quite work out as the starting point guard for the Mavericks, so the team will naturally look for someone more competent to fill the spot. While Chris Paul is highly coveted, he is much more likely to stay in L.A. than Howard, which is why Mavs are looking for another primary ball handler.
If the Mavericks hit the jackpot and do land Howard in free agency, also going for Bayless or Jack would be a good idea.
Jack is coming off a very successful season with the Golden State Warriors, as he was one of the leading candidates for the Sixth Man of the Year award. While he has said that he would love to stay with the up-and-coming Warriors, anything can happen in free agency.
Bayless has also been playing quite well for the Memphis Grizzlies this season, although his role was not quite as significant as Jack’s. Ever since Rudy Gay left the Grizzlies, Bayless has been one of the few guys who can create his own shot on this Memphis team, which is something that would go well with what the Mavericks need. His price would also likely be significantly cheaper than Jack’s.
