P.J. Carlesimo Out As Brooklyn Nets Coach, Jeff Van Gundy Targeted

According to Adrian Wojnarowski’s sources, the Brooklyn Nets will not bring back P.J. Carlesimo as the head coach. Instead, they will look for a replacement and Woj claims that the team will target Jeff Van Gundy.

The Brooklyn Nets made a coaching change early in the regular season, as Avery Johnson was shown the door after a tough stretch of games. P.J. Carlesimo stepped in as the interim head coach for the rest of the season and did a decent job. Carlesimo helped the Nets achieve home-court advantage in the first round, but the team ultimately fell to the Chicago Bulls in game seven.

This doesn’t really come as a surprise, as P.J. would probably have had to take the team significantly further into the postseason to be considered for an extension.

Jeff Van Gundy is currently enjoying his gig as a commentator, but would be a decent choice for Brooklyn. However, whether he is interested in the job is a whole other story.
