According to Portland Trail Blazers PR Twitter account, the organization and the NBA will be making a major announcement on Wednesday. It is not clear what the announcement will be, but it is quite obvious.
With the regular season awards being handed out, the winner of the Rookie Of The Year award is yet to be announced. While the formalities remain, Portland’s rookie Damian Lillard is practically the only candidate for rookies honors after a great opening season in the NBA.
After being picked sixth overall in the 2012 NBA draft, Lillard didn’t wait long before he started making his case for RoY. He hit big shots and led the Trail Blazers together with LaMarcus Aldridge. While the team ultimately hit a rough patch towards the end of the season and missed out on the playoffs, Lillard averaged 19 points, 6.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds in his first year.
It remains to be seen what the announcement will be, but more likely than not the Trail Blazers’ rookie will be handed the award.
