Marc Gasol to be named Defensive Player Of The Year?

J.R. Smith won the Sixth Man Of The Year Award earlier today, and the regular season awards frenzy continues. According to Chris Vernon, Marc Gasol will be named Defensive Player Of The Year.

Gasol was certainly one of the front-runners for the award, while the list of other prominent candidates is bound to include the likes of Avery Bradley, Tony Allen, Joakim Noah and Roy Hibbert.

Gasol has done a great job defensively this year, anchoring and directing the second-best defensive team in the NBA. However, Memphis Grizzlies struggled defensively in game one against the Los Angeles Clippers, and will need to improve on their initial postseason performance.

The reports are not yet confirmed.
