Doug Collins has an incredible passion for the game and for winning. Unfortunately, without Andrew Bynum, winning did not appear to be in the cards for this year’s Sixers team.
Collins, however, pushed his players to continue fighting and would not adhere to management’s request to play for a better position in this year’s draft.
As a result, there is growing speculation that Collins will not be back next season.
“I think he’s gone at the end of the year. He’ll be moving on,” said one NBA source who is well informed on the situation. “He’ll decide to leave, and they won’t be upset about it. They would like to see it work out that he decides to move on.”
If Collins does resign, he would be leaving $4.5 million on the table.
Despite coaching the Sixers to game seven of the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, the team is currently 16 games below .500 this season.
