Los Angeles Lakers Immortalize Shaquille O’Neal

Last night was a special occasion for the Los Angeles Lakers fans. Not only did the team take a step towards the playoffs by beating the Dallas Mavericks, but at halftime the organization held a ceremony for the retirement of Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey.

In his eight seasons playing in Hollywood, O’Neal established himself as one of the most dominant big men to ever play the game. Together with Kobe Bryant, he led the Lakers to three championships and was the finals MVP all three times.

Yesterday the team honored O’Neal, and his jersey will now forever hang in the rafters at Staples Center. When he addressed Phil Jackson in his speech, a chant of “We Want Phil” broke out in the arena, showing some love to the retired mastermind, who won five championships with the team.

Congratulations to Shaq.
