It seems that the Rudy Gay saga is finally coming to an end. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, of Yahoo! Sports, the Memphis Grizzlies have reached an agreement which will move Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors.
According to Wojnarowski, this is what the deal looks like:
“The Grizzlies receive point guard Jose Calderon as part of the deal, and will route Calderon’s $10.5 million expiring contract to the Detroit Pistons for a package that includes forwards Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, league sources told Y! Sports. The Raptors also sent forward Ed Davis and a second-round pick to the Grizzlies. Memphis sent center Hamed Haddadi to the Raptors.”
It has been rumored for some time now that the Raptors wanted to acquire Rudy Gay, but that a third team would have to be involved in a potential deal. Most believed that 3rd team to be the Boston Celtics.
Instead it is the Detroit Pistons that have stepped in and assisted in facilitating a deal.
The Memphis Grizzlies have wanted to get rid of Gay’s big salary for a while now, but it seems rather odd that they would only get Prince, Daye and Ed Davis in return. The Pistons get a great point guard in Jose Calderon to run the show, while Raptors add a strong player to the team’s core by landing Gay.
