Greg Oden made it clear earlier this season that he would not allow his chronic knee issues put an early stop to his NBA career. He has recently been linked with the Miami Heat, but it now seems that the Dallas Mavericks might want to take a gamble on the 24-year-old 7-footer.
Oden has recently been working his way back into shape, recovering from microfracture surgery, and wants to have a shot at some NBA action next season.
According to an ESPN report, the Dallas Mavericks have been in touch with Oden’s agent, about possibly making a multiyear offer to the former no.1 overall pick.
The Mavs are not the only team that are rumored to be interested in making a long term commitment, to a center who has had several microfracture surgeries on his knees. Some teams are even willing to sign Oden this season, in order to allow him to rehab under the supervision of the franchise’s medical staff.
Mavericks, who are having a terrible season, most definitely need to have a big offseason to keep the team’s superstar Dirk Nowitzki happy, and Oden could be one of the targets. Ever since the Mavs decided to let got of Tyson Chandler, the team has struggled to find a consistent defensive presence in the paint.
The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Oden, who was considered as one of the most talented defensive big men to ever enter the NBA draft back in 2007, with the no.1 overall pick, passing on Kevin Durant.
