Rudy Gay, put on the trade block along with many other teammates from the Memphis Grizzlies, has been awaiting a decision on whether or not he will be traded.
According to Mark Spears from Yahoo! Sports, the Grizzlies have merely gauged interest in the forward.
Grizzlies management has been calling teams to gauge interest in Gay, but no trade is imminent, a source told Yahoo! Sports.
But that won’t stop star point guard for the Boston Celtics, Rajon Rondo, for attempting to sway management to move for Gay.
It’s hard to talk to [Rondo] because he is always saying, ‘We need you over here. We need you over here,’” Gay said. “So it’s not easy talking to him. But he’s being a friend, just telling me about keeping everything together and he makes you feel like you are still valuable.
The Celtics are in the midst of a season-high four-game winning streak, but could use more depth at forward as only Jeff Green can naturally play down to the three spot behind Paul Pierce. Boston generally plays a smaller lineup with Pierce sitting, using their plethora of guards and power forwards to fill out various lineups.
Trading for Gay could also ensure the Celtics rebuilding process as near complete as they are set at most positions with Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger looking like the most concrete young pieces on the roster.
