According to Grantland, Memphis Grizzlies brass has made it known that Rudy Gay is on the trade block.
All of this explains why Memphis, over the last few weeks, has made it known in preliminary talks with other teams that Rudy Gay could be available via trade, according to sources around the league.
From the article, Zach Lowe breaks down candidates as the Minnesota Timberwolves, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz as likely trade partners.
Other than his rookie year, where he played fewer than 30 minutes a game for the only time in his career, Gay is averaging a career-worst 18 points per game on a mediocre 41 percent shooting. With stat guru John Hollinger en tow, the Grizzlies will be cautious on trading the premier forward.
With Memphis standing at 20-9 and holding the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, trading Gay would only be for like or better pieces to keep this team a contender and clean up the books.
It’s hard to imagine the Grizzlies getting much for Gay, but it will be a true test for Hollinger as his first big move in the Memphis organization.
