Despite his age and his contract, the Lakers know that Pau Gasol is the team’s best option at power forward.
On Wednesday, at a Manhattan Beach restaurant, Gasol and head coach Mike D’Antoni met in an effort to smooth things over.
“We’re trying to reach the same goal.” Gasol said. “Let’s communicate. Hopefully, we can meet halfway on some points.”
The four-time all-star would like more opportunities in the post and increased playing time in the fourth quarter.
The ideal power forward in D’Antoni’s system is one who is a three-point threat, especially from the corners, and one who also has an easier time running the floor than Gasol does.
Since the meeting, D’Antoni has publicly stated that Gasol will in fact have a larger role during critical junctures of the game.
