According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, New Orleans has plans in the works to change their team name from the Hornets to the Pelicans.

The New Orleans Hornets are expected to change their nickname to the Pelicans as early as the 2013-14 season, numerous sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Owner of the New Orleans Saints, Tom Benson, purchased the team earlier this year and his wife was recently quoted as saying her preference of team colors would be gold, red and blue.

New Orleans would need to wait approximately two years in order to successfully change their name, logo and the works.

Here at KJG, we covered the possibility of Michael Jordan bringing the Hornets nickname back to Charlotte should New Orleans opt out of their naming rights.

Stay tuned as we continue to follow this story.
