In somewhat of a surprising move, the Cleveland Cavaliers waived forward Luke Harangody and signed rookie forward Kevin Jones. Jones was with the team during training camp, and was among the last cuts at the end of camp. He also played three games for the Cavs Developmental affiliate Canton Charge, averaging an outstanding 27 points and 13.7 rebounds in 41.3 minutes. Upon his signing, he was assigned to play with the Charge full time.

Harangody recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined for at least another month. Over the past two seasons, Harangody averaged 4.5 and 3.5 rebounds for the Cavs. He had not played in a game this season due to injury. As of now, Harangody has not been claimed by any other NBA team on the waiver wire. For now, it’s good to see Jones back in the fold. He has some upside, and with the right development, I could see him becoming a solid bench guy for Cleveland. Harangody, on the other hand, was pretty set in the Luke Walton role of sitting on the end of the bench. There really was not a place long term for the former Notre Dame star.
