Leandro Barbosa`s new home?
According to Yahoo! Sports, free agent guard Leandro Barbosa reached an agreement with the Boston Celtics. Barbosa started his NBA career with the Phoneix Suns. After 7 years with Phoenix, he played for the Toronto Raptors for one full season then played half of last season with Toronto and finished the year with the Indiana Pacers.
Last season he averaged 11.1 points per game and 1.5 assists per game. In playoffs, he averaged 5.7 points per game in 20 minutes per game.
Impact of the signing ?
The Boston Celtics lost their once All-Star shooting guard Ray Allen this summer and the team is in need of scoring guards. Danny Ainge filled Allen`s departure with three important signings. Jason Terry is going to be an adhesion power to the team. In the preseason games you can see how he is dedicated to the Celtics team. Courtney Lee is a solid player who is able to average 10-15 points per game and he is going to reduce the stress on Paul Pierce. Barbosa will be a good backup point guard for Rajon Rondo. Both of them can create with the dribble and score the ball. The signing of Barbosa will help Doc Rivers in his rotation experiments. Barbosa can play both shooting guard and point guard. Barbosa will be the third option for the point guard position behind Avery Bradley and Rondo but he has a potential of scoring 15 points per game which is very essential for the Celtics.
Celtics overall review
Last year in playoffs, it was obvious that the Celtics had offensive problems. The team was not able to get easy baskets and did not have too many options in their offense. This year they signed three scoring guards and re-signed Kevin Garnett. Also Jeff Green is going to be an additional help on offense and defense. The Celtics seems like the only team who will be able to compete with the Miami Heat from the Eastern Conference.
