The Diary of Tyler Zeller

The No. 17 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, Tyler Zeller, has been selected by NBA.com to keep a diary during his preseason. NBA.com is hoping this can give fans a realistic approach to what rookies have to go through with the transition from college – to the pros.

His first entry came the first day of training camp, Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. He describes what he is feeling just before camp starts. From the sound of it, he was scared, but excited before walking into Camp Scott. He describes his summer routine that he and his young teammates have endured. It sounds like they are growing close together and encouraging themselves to get better.

An interesting facet on the diary is the player’s life off of the court as well. Zeller talks about what it was like moving to Cleveland. As a fan, you never think about what a player is doing when they aren’t playing in a game or at practice. Zeller does a good job at describing what it is like on his own in a new city.

He goes on to talk about Distinxion Basketball Camp, what he and his family started about three years ago in Indiana. The camp was recently held in Cleveland and drew nearly 40 kids. Not only do they work on basketball, but they work on their character as well by trying to make themselves better players and people.

This was only his first entry, but it sure sounds like the Cavs have a true professional. After his career at North Carolina, we know what he can do on the court, and this gives us a description of what he is like off the court.

His diary entry can be found HERE at NBA.com.
