Kyrie Irving Named To USA Men's Select Team

After winning Rookie of the Year and having people applaud his acting, directing and writing as “Uncle Drew,” Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will not shy away form the limelight. Irving is actually going to get back to work on the basketball court this summer, playing with the USA Select Team.

The team is composed of players who will play against the 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team during the July 6-12 training camp in Las Vegas before the Olympics in London.

Along with Irving twelve other players will be playing on the USA Select Team, including Most Improved Player Ryan Anderson, DeJaun Blair, DeMarcus Cousins, DeMar DeRozan, Derrick Favors, Paul George, Taj Gibson, Gordon Hayward, Kawhi Leonard, Jeremy Lin, Klay Thompson and John Wall. Blair, George and Leonard are still playing in the playoffs, but will be fine by the time the training camp arrives.

Irving will also play in a Cavaliers training camp along with Tristan Thompson, so the two rookie picks in 2011 will be more than prepared for the full 82-game regular season in the fall.

I think it’s great that Cleveland’s young players are taking part in these activities, as long as they are taking precaution with their health and bodies. I think we will see Thompson excel this season with this added practice and having Anderson Varejao by his side. Irving will obviously come in with a lot of expectations, and I think he will be more healthy next season with a less hurried schedule.
