Cavaliers Waive Mychel Thompson

The Cavaliers released rookie Mychel Thompson today.

I can’t exactly say this is a surprise. The young man had been keep the chairs on the bench warm for most of the season and only got time playing time due to injuries to both Anthony Parker and Daniel Gibson. He look intriguing at times, and at the other times you just didn’t know why he was on the roster.

Releasing him opens up a spot on the roster. It will most likely be filled by a player under 10 day contract. It seems very likely that Manny Harris will be called up. And that could be a huge deal for the Cavaliers. A strong performance by Harris could make the Cavs pull the trigger on a deal like the rumored deal with the Lakers.

Of course we can’t rule out the idea of a trade happening that would bring in another player. When it comes to trades everyone wants to talk about getting draft picks. But I think it’s very likely that another player will be brought in via a trade. I have no idea exactly who that might be. But if the Cavs do bring in another player, you can be sure he will most likely be a younger player and not a veteran with a huge contract.

It looks like a wild ride is coming for the Cavaliers as we approach the trade deadline.
