According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo reports that the Cleveland Cavaliers are discussing a trade with the Lakers that would involve Ramon Sessions.
It’s unclear what the Cavaliers would get in return, it’s safe to assume they would expect a first round pick in return for Sessions. There were rumors around last years trade deadline that Sessions could be traded to New York for a first round pick. In this case, the Cavaliers would likely want a first round pick in 2012 and a player.
The first round pick is the big part of the trade. Having two first round picks in back to back years would be amazing. If the season ended today, the Cavaliers and Lakers would be picking towards the middle of the draft. While some frown at picks in the middle of the round, the 2012 NBA Draft is deep. Shooting guards like Terrence Ross from Washington and Centers like Tyler Zeller.
If the Cavs know they can get a first round pick, and believe that pick will be towards the middle of the round, I think the Cavs should make this deal. Sessions is a good player to be sure. But if you can aquire an additional draft pick for him, you have to make the deal. It’s all about the team and the future. And with Manny Harris possibly rejoining the Cavs soon, you might as well trade for more assets going further.
