LeBron James Challenges Kevin Durant to All Star Flag Football Match

Since David Stern and the owners have decided they put their own unfathomably selfish greed before the good people of America and the world who make the game what it is, LeBron James is looking for other activities to keep him entertained.

You may remember some months ago upon a visit to New York, LeBron was walking through Central Park when he stumbled upon a game of flag football, to which he asked if he could join in. Obviously the answer was yes and he reported to be great fun, really kind and a hell of a player. He then turned up to a St Vincent St Mary’s football training session and received similar reviews from his former high school.

Recently Kevin Durant too embarked upon a similar journey. Clearly also bored by the never ending fog horn that is the NBA lockout, the Durantula tweeted:

“This lockout is really boring..anybody playing flag football in OKC..I need to run around or something!”

Whether this was inspired by LeBron James we won’t know. Durant was asked by a local student of OSU to join in a flag football match they were hosting later that day, and unexpectedly Durant got in contact with the guy, keen to play.

Durant was very proud of his performance, tweeting:

“I had soooo much fun at Oklahoma st. playing flag football! Shoutout my new buddy @groverbey for inviting me! I threw 4 tds and had 3 ints!!”

These statistics were not backed up, but I think this video pretty much speaks for itself:

If you weren’t a fan of Durant’s before watching that, hearing the lengths the guy went to, to get involved in this thing was pretty cool. There aren’t many all encompassing sports stars that would go out of their way to do something like this at no real benefit to themselves, and at the same time be completely humble and respective of it. You see the guy in the video, George Overbey, who was the person responsible for getting Durant involved, could not talk higher of the guy and it certainly raised my impressions of him.

It also caught the attention of another guy that we have heard similar acclaims over, LeBron James.

“Team KD35 vs Team King James do i hear? Flag football. I have the best of field here in Akron. Day game or underthe lights.”

We’ve seen these two go at it a few times over the course of the summer, but this may be the most intriguing, should it go ahead. Durant had a direct and immediate answer.

“Set it up! My team ready.”

Move aside Crosby vs Ovechkin. Forget Brady vs Manning. Who even cares about Ronaldo vs Messi. It’s now Durant vs LeBron, but not quite in the context you may have thought.

Let’s give real credit to a bunch of the NBA’s finest, particularly these two, for really attempting to keep us interested during the lockout.

The impending match between the two may be the only reason as to why we can wait a little longer for basketball.

Just a little longer.

I’m talking like a week.
