This is really disappointing…
Isn’t that just life.
You get your hopes up, you think something amazing is going to go down, and just like that it is all taken away from you.
No, I’m not talking about relationships or women (although that about sums it up for me), I am talking about the latest news that LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul have pulled out of the proposed NBA World Tour that was set to take off in a couple of days.
Not only is this bad for the overall marketability of the tour, despite the fact there is still a plethora of talent committed, but it is now believed the plans for the tour are seriously in jeopardy and there is a good chance the tour does not happen at all.
The Decision, The Finals, The Lockout…time I realised a love affair with the NBA is always going to be a one way street.
As an Australian that has lived and breathed the NBA for many, many years now and an Australian that knows of so many other Australians like me, I can’t tell you how excited this country was in hearing that LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and a who’s who of NBA All Stars were going to bring a couple of exhibition games down under. It really was huge, Americans underestimate the significance the game has around the world, especially here.
With the news that 3 of the top 10 players in the world, including arguably the best and certainly the most relevant, have pulled out has not been received well. The fact this now puts the tour in doubt has been received worse.
Australia are not the only country to suffer. England too are missing out on a once in a lifetime opportunity, as are Macau. Supposedly the trip to Puerto Rico is set to go head on Sunday, but no word on anything following that.
It’s truly heartbreaking for me and safe to say it’s truly heartbreaking for millions of other people within Australia, England and Macau.
Kevin Durant is now rumoured to be questioning his involvement in the entire tour, should it all go ahead.
Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand why James, Anthony and Paul have pulled out. Family is no.1 and the fact they have a prolonged period of time in which they can spend with their families, I am all for doing so, but don’t dangle the carrot then take it away.
Don’t flirt with us at the bar if you aren’t going to let us take you home.
Current MVP Derrick Rose and fellow hog point guard Russell Westbrook have already pulled out, and more are expected given the news that the higher profile threesome is now not attending.
I have to say, it did all seem too good to be true.
I mean why would little old Australia ever get the chance to basically host an All Star game?
Still…would’ve been nice…and for a moment there…we all thought it was going to happen.
