How quickly a series can turn in just one game. And how often is that game 3. The Miami Heat hit back at their universe of haters following an embarrassing game 2 humiliation and took the first of three games in Dallas, holding off the fast finish Mavericks 88-86. Dwyane Wade came out like he had something to prove, despite going off for 36 in the game 2 loss, and put up 29 points and 11 rebounds in another truly dominant Finals performance. Since the 6 minute disaster that ended game 2, everyone thinks the world has fallen in around the Heat. Dirk and Dallas are being touted as a new team and people are rejoicing in the fact that LeBron and Miami will have to wait another year before they can shut everyone up. The same stories that plagued the regular season are beginning to resurface as people once again doubt the Miami Heat. It seems LeBron may have lost another friend. One of the few remaining Ohio citizens that could stand the sight of LeBron James now looks to have joined the vast majority of those who despise their once hero. Daniel Gibson, one of James’ former best friends and most reliable teammates, has taken the past 12 months pretty hard and has been rather outspoken several times on some of his former teammates’ comments. Goodness me… Miami are high fiving, the crowd is on it’s feet dancing and there are smiles all around. Miami holds a very firm grip on the series and is already looking ahead to the three games in Dallas where even one away win would all but signal the end for the Mavericks. Only problem was there was still 6 minutes to go. Dallas go on a 22-5 run closing the game, the final 9 coming from the big German, and steal a most unlikely win from the grasp of the Heat. Today’s game may decide the rest of the series. If Miami get the win, a 2-0 series lead could be very difficult for Dallas to come back from, even heading into 3 consecutive home games. If Miami goes up 2-0, and they steal one in Dallas, which given their away form in the last two rounds could very well happen, the Finals is all but over. It is one of the sadder retirements in the past two decades as the Big Diesel, the Big Aristotle, The Big Shaqtus, The Big Shamrock, The Big Leprichaun, The Big Daddy, The Big Agave, Dr Shaq and Super Man retired today. Bosh was effective. Wade was effective. James was effective. When those three guys are effective, they do not lose many games. In the playoffs when those guys have all been effective they have not lost a game. The Heat took a huge step towards their championship dream last night downing the Mavericks 92-84. The Mavs led most of the game, despite shooting below 40% for much of the game.
