I’m Going to Make Him an Offer He Can’t Refuse: Street Meat

Contrary to the belief of hip-hop star and New Jersey Nets minority owner Jay-Z, nobody remains forever young.  LeBron James included.  And for that reason, the King needs to start winning now if he is going to cement his legacy as one of the brightest stars to ever play the game of basketball.

Yes, New Jersey has quite a bit of money to play with – just like the New York Knicks.  But, also like the Knicks, the Nets do not have a championship caliber roster even if they added LeBron James.  They do offer a tad more firepower because their roster does include rising star Brook Lopez and former all-star point guard Devin Harris.  Let’s assume they sign LeBron James along with another superstar – for example, Chris Bosh.  That would probably send Lopez to the bench – because the two big men have very similar games and would only hinder each others’ performance – and, in conclusion, would not allow New Jersey the opportunity to compete for a conference championship.  They, too, are a five or six seed at best.

LeBron does, however, enjoy the bright lights and the nightlife that Jersey provides.  He has stated on numerous occasions that he would love to live in New York / New Jersey at some point during his lifetime.  But is now the right time

He has two young children – LeBron Jr. and Bryce Maximus – who will be forced to grow up in the spotlight as it stands.  They can only be hurt by the constant attention at such a young age.  That’s where the perks of little old Cleveland come in to play.

Cleveland doesn’t get nearly the same amount of attention as New York or New Jersey.  However, it still earns enough attention to make one of the world’s greatest athletes a global icon.

And, in closing, we’ll keep the Godfather theme and finish with this quote:

“When they come… they come at what you love.”

And, in Cleveland, we certainly love our King.
