Welcome to the pork barbecue capital of the world, Cavs fans!
Did you know it is illegal for women to drive a car in Memphis unless there is a man running in front of the car waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians? It’s a wonder why Memphis is the only city in the states to be recognized on five separate occasions as the Cleanest City in the Nation, huh?
All jokes aside, our Cleveland Cavaliers are getting prepared for a Tuesday Night Tango with the Memphis Grizz in the home of Rock N’ Roll.
And here’s how it breaks down:
Memphis is coming off of back-to-back victories against Minnesota and a pretty good Dallas team. Led by Rudy Gay with 20.5 points per game, the Grizzlies send a team of young guns to the floor with an 8-12 record on the year. Zach Randolph is averaging just shy of a double-double with his 18.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per night and Marc Gasol chips in a steady 14.6 points and 9.7 boards per contest. The team comes into the game shooting just a smidge over 30% from beyond the arc while allowing an even 105 points a night.
The Cavs are winners of four of their last five and have topped the 100 point plateau in all four of those victories.
What to Look For:
The Cavs have reached the 100 point mark in each of their last four games behind four straight double-doubles by King James. With Memphis giving up more than 100 points a game, look for both of those streaks to continue on Tuesday night.
Delonte West returned to the floor during Sunday’s matinee with Milwaukee and torched the Bucks for a season-high 21 points. West has notched a few solid performances this season but has struggled to remain consistent. When “Brotha Red” comes out to play, the Cavs are a tough team to topple.
Prediction:
The names Memphis and Cavaliers share a common meaning in that both denote the terms established and beautiful.
Like many games this season, the Cavs will look to establish their presence in the paint early and will feed the big man the rock on each of the first three possessions. The result: Diesel goes 2 of 2 from the field and even nails a free throw to give him 5 quick points and help Cleveland to an early advantage. LeBron James hits a ridiculous half-court bankshot as the first period expires to give the Wine and Gold a one point advantage after
one.
West and Boobie Gibson team up for a combined 15 points in the second quarter but OJ Mayo cans three tres in the period to give the Grizz a five point lead at the half.
LeBron and Rudy Gay open the second half going mano-a-mano, both notching 14 points in the period, but the Cavs cut the their deficit to one going into the final period.
Mo Williams joins the party in the fourth quarter and leads the LeBronless second unit to a six point advantage as the King enters the game with six and a half remaining. Mayo’s and-one and Marc Gasol’s two-hand slam give the Grizzlies a one point advantage with 45 seconds to play.
LeBron drives, dishes out to Mo, who finds Delonte West in the corner for the go ahead three. Just beautiful! Mr. Efficiency, Anderson Varejao, forces a turnover with 10 seconds remaining to seal the deal for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the good guys take the “W” 101-97.
Bah-zing-uh!
