
- Big Z posted a team-high 14 points in his record breaking night.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas walked out onto the floor of the Q with 3:50 left in the first quarter to a standing ovation in the Cavaliers match-up with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. Big Z surpassed Cavs GM Danny Ferry for the franchise leader in games played with 724 over his 14 year career.
Big Z and the rest of the Cavaliers came out fired up and torched the Suns for 57 points and led by 28 points after the first half of play. The Wine and Gold continued their dominate play throughout the second half and put Phoenix away 107-90.
Ten Cavaliers scored in the game while seven of them recorded double-digits in the scoring category. In his big record breaking night, Big Z posted a team-high 14 points while snagging 6 rebounds. King James added 8 rebounds while posting yet another double-double in a 12 point and 10 assist performance and Mo Williams followed his near-perfect performance on Saturday night with an 11 point contest. The Cavs’ starting big men, JJ Hickson and Shaquille O’Neal, combined for 25 points and 17 rebounds on 11 of 17 from the floor. Anthony Parker shot 4 of 7 from the field on his way to a 10 point performance.
The Cleveland bench totaled 49 of the Cavs’ 107 points. Anderson Varejao tallied 9 points and 8 rebounds while Jamario Moon posted 8 points in only 12 minutes of play. Daniel Gibson shot 2 of 3 from downtown in a 10 point performance and fellow back-court reserve Delonte West recorded 8 points and 6 assists on the night.
The Wine and Gold will be back in action on ESPN on Friday night against the Chicago Bulls. Tip-off will be at 8:00 pm.
