JJ Hickson: Sophomore Stud

Hickson has taken advantage of his time with the first unit as of late.

After his rookie campaign was cut short by back spasms, JJ Hickson spent much of his summer with the King of Cleveland preparing his mind and his body for the long haul of the 2009-10 season with the Cavaliers.  Hickson has taken full advantage of his relationship with LeBron, saying, “I have learned a lot of things on and off of the court [from LeBron]. I think that one of the biggest things that I have learned is to be consistent. I think that I have been consistent since I have been starting and I am just trying to take full advantage of the situation.”

The sophomore sensation spent the first several games of the season coming off the bench for Mike Brown and averaged a mere 1.6 points per game.  Since being upgraded to the starting lineup, the young man has elevated his play to average a steady 15.7 points per contest.

Coach Mike Brown praised the young forward for his play as of late, saying, “He is filling his role and playing off others. He has to be guarded because of his athleticism and can drive the ball, shoot the ball and post-up. Our guys have confidence in him and he’s producing. The trust is obviously building and he’s earning it. He’s making mistakes, but he’s going hard. Those are the mistakes that you can live with.”

Hickson has taken full advantage of his opportunity to join the starting lineup for the Cavaliers and looks to continue his consistent play on Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors.
