The Detroit Pistons announced today that Allen Iverson would be out for the remainder of the season. This is just after AI said that he would rather retire than come off the bench. Joe Dumars today helped AI closer to retirement:
“After talking with Allen and our medical staff, we feel that resting Allen for the remainder of the season is the best course of action at this time,” Dumars said in a statement. “While he has played in our last three games, he is still feeling some discomfort and getting him physically ready to compete at the level he is accustomed to playing this late in the season does not seem possible at this point.”
Iverson will not be be back with the Pistons next season, but he will still find a team. ESPNs Chris Broussard said that the Cavaliers could be a “wildcard team” to land Iverson next season because his agent, Leon Rose, is the same agent who represents Lebron James. I don’t see this happening with Cleveland unless Iverson could understand his role, which I think is impossible. Iverson will end up in Oklahoma City, Toronto, or some market that needs to sell tickets.
